Police: Man dies after possible altercation with witnesses who saw him rob woman at Speedway

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Columbus Division of Police says a man who died Sunday morning may have gotten in an altercation with people who saw him rob a woman.

Police got a call Sunday morning around 9:53am on a report of several males chasing another male who may have been the suspect of a robbery at the Speedway Gas Station at 1442 North Cassidy Avenue.

Officers arrived and found the victim, a male, laying in the rear of Four Points Hotel near Port Columbus International Airport, at 3030 Plaza Properties Boulevard.

The man was transported to Ohio State University Hospital East in critical condition and was pronounced dead at approximately 10:54am.

Police say that according to their investigation, the man robbed a woman at the Speedway and began running away. 

Several witnesses to the robbery began chasing him, police say, and pursued him to the location where he was found. The witnesses attempted to apprehend the suspect, and a struggle ensued.

Police are trying to determine if criminal charges should be filed.
