Police identify woman who was struck by car and dragged to Driving Park Rec Center

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Police have identified a woman who was found dead outside the Driving Park Rec Center early Sunday morning.

Garnet Louise Jones, 62, was discovered just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday at 1100 Rhoads Avenue.

Police said Jones was hit in the area of East Whittier Street and Fairwood Avenue. She was dragged nearly six blocks to the area outside the rec center.

The suspect was driving a silver vehicle that would have heavy front-end damage, police said. The driver of the vehicle that struck Jones fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

The vehicle will have frontend damage. 

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.

This is the city’s 11th traffic-related fatality of 2019.
