Police identify woman struck, killed on North High Street

Columbus Police have identified the pedestrian killed in a car accident Saturday evening.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, Dawn Dunlap, 50, was operating a powered wheelchair while crossing North High Street on the south side of the intersection with Kanawha Avenue around 4:59pm. At the same time, Pamela Elwell, 76, was driving her Buick Encore west from E. Kanawha Avenue and began to turn left onto the south lane of North High Street.

Police say Elwell’s vehicle struck Dunlap in the crosswalk. Dunlap was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

This is the 10th pedestrian traffic-related fatality in the city of Columbus this year.
