One person has died after a fatal hit-and-run crash on the city’s east side Wednesday night.

Columbus police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck in the area of East Main Street and McNaughten Road just after 9:20pm.

Witnesses told police, Daniel Haley, 62, of Reynoldsburg, was on foot in the westbound lanes of E. Main Street attempting to chase several geese out of the roadway, when he was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by Robert Cook, 21, also of Reynoldsburg.

Police say Cook continued driving after striking Haley.

Haley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cook and his vehicle were later located by police about two miles from where the crash occurred.

Police arrested Cook and charged him with Hit/Skip and OVI.
