The country’s national parks are among those impacted by the partial government shutdown, including the only federally run park in Central Ohio.
The Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, in Chillicothe, remains open. The park’s Visitor Center, however, is closed.
Park staff is not on site.
“Knowing that the parks are closed, we were hoping there wouldn’t be a chain at the gate so we could walk around,” said Alan Lonn, who visited the park on Monday. “I’d looked at the park’s website so we knew there were some signs out there explaining things and we found exactly what we expected.”
NBC4 attempted to contact the National Park Service to inquire about the number of area employees impacted by the shutdown.
At the time of this publication, our efforts went unanswered.
