Owner of Pittie Paw Rescue faces animal cruelty charges

Local News

More trouble for the owner of Pittie Paw Rescue.

Mount Vernon Law Director Rob Broeren filed charges Monday against Kristin Beaupry. The Centerburg woman is charged with seven counts of animal cruelty and neglect.

The 24-year-old is accused of failing to provide medical care for five dogs and proper food and living conditions for another dozen dogs.

Pittie Paw Rescue warehoused 67 dogs in a dilapidated former cabinet-making shop in Knox County.

Last August, Beaupry and her mother, Joyce Meisenhelder, were arraigned on 24 counts of animal cruelty and one count of animal abandonment.

Beaupry and Meisenhelder are accused of abandoning 23 cats and kittens in a run-down trailer in Licking County. Both women pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges.

The trial is scheduled to start Nov. 29.

Investigators said Meisenhelder and the dogs lived in a house next to the trailer until she was evicted in late July.

The dogs were brought to the former cabinet-making shop in Knox County where they lived until mid-September.
