OSHP investigating fatal motorcycle crash in Licking County

Troopers from the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol(OSHP) are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Madison Township, Licking County.

OSHP reports that on Thursday, September 6 at approximately 4:49pm, a 1980 Yamaha motorcycle ridden by Jesse Allen Gillispie, 39, of Newark was westbound on Marne Road NE. A Honda Odyssey driven by Tasha M. Hupp, 36, of Newark was also westbound on Marne Road NE and started to turn left into a private drive.

Investigators say that Gillispie went left of center in an attempt to pass Hupp’s vehicle and when doing so, struck the Honda Odyssey. The motorcycle traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and Gillispie was ejected.

Acoording to OSHP, Gillispie was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash.

Hupp was not injured as a result of the crash.

OSHP investigators say that alcohol and/or drugs are suspected.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges all motorists to call #677 or 911 to report possible impaired drivers.
