One person injured, one person in custody after shooting in west Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus Police say one woman was injured in a shooting on the west side Saturday evening.

Police were called to the area of 1799 West Mound Street on the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Amanda Peterson, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

Peterson told officers she had been arguing with Shaquele Beard, 25, when Beard pulled out a gun and shot her.

Peterson was transported to Mount Carmel West Hospital in non-life threatening condition.

Beard was arrested after fleeing from officers on foot. During the course of the investigation, officers located a handgun at the scene.

Beard has been charged with one count of felonious assault. According to court records, Beard will appear in Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday at 9am for an arraignment.Keep checking for real-time updates on this story.
