One of two men captured after escaping Union County correctional facility

Local News

MARYSVILLE, OH (WCMH) — Deputies say one of the two men who escaped a Union County correctional facility has been captured.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:58am, Wednesday, deputies were notified that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office had arrested Cody A. Ray after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle. Ray was taken into custody without incident after a short pursuit, deputies say.

Ray, 27, along with Joshua K. Hammond, 28, escaped the West Central Community Correctional Facility on State Route 4 in Marysville, late last month.

Hammond was placed at West Central in August 2018 as a result of a probation violation for an original charge of possession of drugs.

Ray was placed at West Central in September 2018 as a result of a probation violation for an original charge of grand theft.

Police say that both escapees ran through an open door and climbed a twelve foot fence on the east side of the facility.

There was another passenger in the vehicle at the time of Ray’s arrest but it was not Hammond.

Hammond remains at large and deputies ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 937-645-4110.
