One man pronounced dead at scene of downtown Newark crash

The Newark Division of Police and the Newark Division of Fire responded to a report of a traffic crash with serious injuries at the intersection of State Route 13 and the State Route 16 eastbound off ramp on Sunday at approximately 11:58a.m.

According to police, Aaron Madinger, 50, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Madinger was driving a gray Honda and had just exited State Route 16 eastbound when he was struck by a Dodge Ram truck driven by Charles Preston, 25 of Mount Vernon.  Preston was traveling southbound with his 5 year old son on State Route 13 at the time of the crash.

Preston and his son were taken to Licking Memorial Hospital and later released.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting the Newark Division of Police with the investigation of this crash.  

Newark police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call Sgt. Clint Eskins at 740-670-7237.
