One dead, one injured in west Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are investigating a deadly double shooting in west Columbus.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to the 2000 block of Sullivant Avenue, at about 10:19am, Thursday on the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived on scene they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was pronounced dead. The other victim was taken to an area hospital.

According to police, shots were fired both inside and outside the residence.

A man with a handgun nearby was caught hiding in the  500 block of Bills Blvd, according to police. Police say another man ran from the scene carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle.

The identity of the victims and the suspects have been withheld by police.

Binns Elementary and Burroughs Elementary schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution due to their proximity to the shooting.  

Police continue to investigate.
