One woman is dead, and a man is in critical condition following a SWAT barricade situation on Wednesday, October 17.
Columbus Police responded to the report of a shooting in the 500 block of N. Ohio Avenue on October 17 at approximately 4:55pm.
According to police reports, when officers arrived, a man barricaded himself inside of the house. Columbus SWAT and Franklin County SWAT teams responded and attempted to negotiate.
CPD SWAT team made the decision to make entry into the house at approximately 10:10pm. Police say that the suspect fired several rounds at the officers before shooting himself.
Investigators report that a female victim in her 70’s was found inside the residence and pronounced dead by Columbus Fire Medics at 10:18pm.
The suspect was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
Another man who was in the house at the time of the incident was not injured and is not considered to be a suspect by Columbus Police.
Investigators say that this is being investigated as a homicide and attempted suicide. Names are being withheld pending notification and confirmed identities of all the parties involved.
