One dead, one in critical condition after commercial vehicle crash in Ross County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a commercial vehicle crash in Union Township located in Ross County.

On August 28 at approximately 2:02pm, a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia, a heavy duty semi truck, driven by Anthony Jones, 51, of Sidney, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 35, near mile marker 14 in Ross County.

Investigators say that the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and went into a ditch. The contents of the trailer were ejected through the front of the trailer, crushing the cab.

According to OSHP, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Vicki Shawler, 53, of Sidney, was extracted from the vehicle by mechanical means and was transported by Medflight to OSU Wexner Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

OSHP are continuing to investigate this crash.
