One dead in Franklinton area shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead Thursday after a report of a shooting in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus.

According to police, at about 10:18pm, Thursday, officers were called to the 900 block of West Town Street on the report of robbery, then later, on the report of a shooting.  

When officers arrived on scene, they found Thomas Dwayne Hunt, 39, unresponsive on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.  

Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Witnesses told police that Hunt may have initiated the violence with his own gun and was fatally injured in an act of self-defense.  

Police say that other witnesses accounts suggest other individuals confiscated evidence prior to officers’ arrival and are currently being sought by detectives for questioning.
