Man killed in east side shooting Friday identified

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man is dead following a shooting near Driving Park Friday.

Columbus Divison of Police was dispatched to 1100 Rhoads Ave. at about 6:40 p.m. and found the man inside of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The location of the incident occurred at 1713 Columbus St., according to a police report.

The victim, identified Saturday as Dalton J. Diaz, 54, was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m., according to police.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this time, police said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to police.

This is the 69th homicide in Columbus in 2019, police said.
