COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead following a single-car accident on I-70 in Columbus.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 10:59pm, Sunday, an unidentified male was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee westbound on I-70, near the I-270 northbound ramp on the east side of Columbus, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the side of the roadway.
The Jeep struck a speed limit sign and continued until it struck a large overhead light pole.
The impact with the pole caused the Jeep to catch fire, which was extinguished when firefighters arrived on scene.
The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police continue to investigate and state they are working to identify the driver.
