One dead after shooting in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person has died following a shooting in southeast Columbus Wednesday night.

According to Columbus Police, officers responded to the area of Hanford Street and Gilbert Street just before 9 p.m.

One victim, Christopher Haycook, 33 was found a few blocks south in the 700 block of E. Jenkins Avenue in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

Haycook was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition where he was pronounced dead just before 12:30 a.m.

The suspected shooter remained at the scene and waited for police.

This is the city’s 175th homicide investigation and 174th homicide of 2020.
