DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) —
A 16-year-old Olentangy Orange High School student faces a felonious assault charge for punching a 15-year-old classmate multiple times in the school bathroom.
The fight was caught on cell phone video.
Now parents want to know what the district is doing to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
The older boy who appears to instigate things based on what NBC4 watched, was taken into custody by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon and charged with felonious assault.
Lisa Muller has 3 kids in the district. Of her 3 boys, 1 is at Olentangy Orange High this year and another will attend next year.
Because of the fight and other incidents she says she’s questioned but says the school has done nothing about, she says she’s concerned about her younger son attending next year.
“Don’t name the kid. Everybody knows who he is. But the public needs to know how they are handling it,” Muller said. “Because if we don’t know how do we trust when this situation comes up again that they’re going to do the right thing?”
NBC4 reached out to the family of both students. Neither wanted to appear or speak on camera.
The student throwing the punches was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
Olentangy Local Schools did not have a representative willing to appear on camera, but the district issued the following statement:
District leadership and local law enforcement are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident. The safety and security of all of our students is of utmost importance and violence of any nature is not tolerated. We will continue to be vigilant in providing a safe environment for all students, and those involved in this incident will be held accountable for their actions.
