CHAMPAIGN, IL (WCMH) — The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announced Wednesday that Craig A. Stone, currently chief of police at The Ohio State University, has been selected to be their new executive director of public safety and chief of police.

The Ohio State University says Stone will have his last day June 12. Deputy Chief Kimberly Spears-McNatt will serve as Ohio State’s Interim chief of police.

Stone’s new role would be effective June 18, subject to the approval of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. Stone has been at Ohio State since 2015 and previously served as chief of police for Cleveland State University. He was a Columbus Division of Police officer for 29 years.

Stone will succeed Jeff Christensen, who retired Dec. 31.
