The search for a boater gone missing on Alum Creek Lake is now a recovery effort, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The boater, who has only been described as a 29-year-old man, went missing around 4:30 p.m., on Sunday.

Search crews spent several hours trying to locate him, before suspending their efforts for the night.

On Monday morning, the recovery effort resumed.

“This is our first fatal accident on Alum Creek, this year,” said Lt. Jeff Baker, with ODNR’s Division of Parks and Watercraft.

Investigators previously said four or five other individuals were on the boat when the man went missing.

They are uninjured.

Search crews have not commented on what caused the boater to go missing in the water, or if he was wearing a life jacket.
