A North Lewisburg woman is dead after a vehicle struck the bicycle she was riding Thursday evening.

The crash happened just after 9:30pmm on State Route 739 west of the Village of Green Camp. According to the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Brook Hoffman, 22, was riding a bicycle west in the east bound lane of SR-739 when a 2013 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Larry Anderson, 73, hit the bike.

Investigators say Anderson was attempting to pass a slower moving vehicle in a designated passing lane and the pickup truck struck the rear of Hoffman’s bicycle. Hoffman was thrown from the bike and came to rest on the south side of the road. Hoffman was taken to Marion General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

According to OSHP, Hoffman was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing, no helmet and did not have display reflectors or lights on the rear of the bicycle. Anderson did not sustain any injuries in the accident. Trooper say alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
