COLUMBUS (WCMH) – As the temperature heats up, a local non-profit is shining a light on a major problem in Central Ohio.  Many seniors and people with disabilities don’t have central air, leaving their homes scorching hot.

A  local non-profit is kicking off a program to help these people through the Beat the Heat campaign by giving away free box fans.  Peggy Fossett came to pick up a fan for her home.

“It makes me feel good. Sometimes I don’t think the regular public understands the needs that elderly has,” said Fossett.

The non-profit Lifecare Alliance is giving away free fans for seniors and those with medical issues.
But organizers need your help.  Chuck Gehrig is the organizer of the event. He said they need folks to donate fans.

“Go to a store. The stores all carry fans because they know we do this campaign. Buy a box fan,” said Gehrig.

Then you can drop it off at any fire station in Franklin, Madison and Marion counties.
