A family owned business was cleaning up the damage on Monday, after someone drove into their lobby on Noe Bixby Road.
The business, Bepler Insurance Agency, had several employees inside when it happened.
Madison Township Police said the 80-year-old driver was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
“She already was kind of pulled in with her hands on the wheel,” said Caleb Kemp.
Kemp, a barber at the neighboring business, was waiting for a client in the parking lot when he saw the driver slumped over the wheel.
“After a second, she just kind of leaned forward a little bit,” he said. “The car had just took off. I thought she had parked it, but it never actually stopped.”
Building owner Mike Todd said eight people were inside the office when it happened, including his family members who work there.
“My wife was in the office. My two daughters were in the office as well working, and it’s a blessing and a miracle that there were no injuries,” said Todd.
Police said the 80-year-old woman had no record of prior driving infractions.
“The woman in the car is going to be alright as well, so we’re thankful for that,” said Todd.
It took the towing crew some time and careful maneuvering to get the car out of the building.
“There’s some interior damage as well. The car drove into and hit an office where, thankfully, no one was in. There were two people in an adjacent office and luckily the car didn’t do any damage there,” said Todd. “Big thank you to the Madison Township fire and police and our friends at Eastland Towing. They got here quickly and were able to help handle the situation.”
Bepler Insurance said they hope to open for business again on Tuesday.
