Newark woman killed in Fairfield County crash

A Newark woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Fairfield County.

According to the Lancaster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on State Route 188near Becks Knob Road around 8:19pm Saturday. Investigators say Rachel N. Kuhlwein, 19, of Newark, was driving east on SR-188 in a Honda Civic when the car went off the right side of the road. The vehicle hit an embankment, went airborne, struck two trees and overturned before coming to a rest.

There were three people in the car at the time of the crash. Kuhlwein was transported to Grant Medical Center by medical helicopter. She is currently in stable condition. The right front passenger, Hanna M. Hager, 18, of Newark, was life-flighted to Mount Carmel  East, where she is listed in stable condition. The right rear passenger, identified as Jasey P. Treadway, 20, of Newark, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says all occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigators believe alcohol, drugs and speed were factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
