Newark Police searching for man with known gang affiliations in connection with fatal shooting

Newark Police have identified a man they believe is a suspect in a shooting that left one man dead Friday night.

Police responded to the area of 88 Hancock Street in Newark just after 11pm Friday night on a report of multiple gunshots. When officers arrived, they found Jesse Thomas Moffitt, 45, unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. Moffitt was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to a press release from the Newark Division of Police, officers are searching for Glenn J. Priest, 28. Investigators say Priest is known to have gang affiliations and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Priest is about 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs around 210 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair. Priest was last seen driving a 2003 gold Ford F-150 with Ohio license plate number HJS8279. The pickup truck has one running board and the hood is tied down with a bungee cord.

Anyone with information about Priest’s whereabouts are urged to call 911 immediately or their local law enforcement agency.

After interviewing witnesses, Newark Police have also charged Billie J. Messer, 28, in connection with the case. She is facing a felony charge of obstructing justice.

The shooting remains under investigation.
