A 46-year-old Newark man who is accused of killing his bedridden, live-in girlfriend in 2018 was arrested on Tuesday during a drug raid, according to the Newark Division of Police.
Brady R. Workman, 46, was arrested on a warrant for homicide at 44 Poplar Ave. for his alleged role in the murder of Kelly D. Barber, 57, of Newark, who died Oct. 22, 2018.
Barber, who was bedridden, suffered from severe head trauma and died as a result of her injuries after being transported to an area hospital, police said.
Workman was Barber’s caregiver and live-in boyfriend at the time of her death and is suspected o have caused Barber’s injuries.
An autopsy was completed at the Franklin County Coroner’s Office which ruled the cause of death a homicide due to severe head trauma caused by non-accidental means.
Barber was arrested after police executed a search warrant for narcotics as at 44 Poplar Ave. Police and the Central Ohio Drug Task Force began an investigation after receiving complaints of drug activity at that location.
Police located drugs both inside the residence and outside in a vehicle, police said.
Lane Gibson, 31, of Newark was arrested for possession.
Additional charges of trafficking in drugs and other appropriate charges will be considered by Licking County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.
