Drivers in the Short North can now pay for parking with their smartphones.
The City of Columbus is revamping its parking situation with the launch of the Park Columbus App.
“For the parking meters themselves, they don’t have a time restriction,” Michael Liggett, community relations coordinator for the Columbus Department of Public Services, said. “You can continue to add time to them throughout the day [by using the app].”
Liggett said the new Park Columbus App is just one part of the Short North’s new parking plan. Right now, about 600 parking meters are equipped for the app, and it will be available on all payment-only meters in the neighborhood by Jan. 22.
So far, residents and drivers alike are enjoying the new feature.
“Yeah, better for Millennials, right?” Short North visitor Brenden Kelly said.
“Alright, I’m in,” Short North resident David Snyder said. “Yeah, the longer the better. Especially if you’re a guest.”
The city plans to add mobile parking options to all 4,500 meters in the city by late 2019.
