Each year the NBC 4 team and all Nexstar stations celebrate the founding of our company with a day of caring.
We have worked with a diverse group of organizations in years past doing everything from planting urban gardens with Local Matters to distributing food at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
This year we are trying something new and exciting. We are teaming up with Lutheran Social Services, Kind Columbus and Harmony Project to paint hope to Faith Mission in the form of a Mural.
“What I love about a mural project is that it doesn’t matter what your skill set is. You can just jump in and grab a brush. With the way we do our murals anybody is an artist,” said David Brown, with Harmony Project.
Helping us with our 15 by nearly 40-foot mural will be artist Jeremy Jarvis who essentially creates a giant paint by numbers on the building.
“A number on the wall or canvas will correspond with a paint number. A number that is on a paint container. And so, we make it easier for the volunteers to grab that paint bucket with the number on it get a brush and get right to work,” said Jarvis.
The project is being made possible through the Columbus Foundation Kindness initiative. For 75 years the foundation has made an impact on central Ohio and through Kind Columbus projects like ours are possible
“So, the Columbus foundation is really the community’s foundation,” said Barbara Fant, Columbus Foundation. “To lift people’s spirits and celebrate hope and love and share that with the community”
“There is a ripple effect. That it’s not just about the folks being served at Faith Mission it’s not just about the NBC 4 staff and crew it’s about everybody in the community being a part of something and getting together” said Brown.
The Founder’s Day of Caring and mural painting will take place on Monday June 17.
