Mother, 4 children rescued from house fire in southeast Columbus

Local News

Five people were rescued from a home on Clarkston Lane early Friday morning by a motorist who was driving by and saw smoke coming from the back of the residence.

A man driving by said he saw a cloud of black smoke at 2404 Clarkston Lane and banged on the door of the one-story home and helped a mother and her four children who were asleep inside escape the blaze that was reported just before 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters say the blaze may have started as a result of a problem with an electrical box attached to the back of the home.

The American Red Cross of Central Ohio has been contacted and American Electric Power (AEP) is on the scene.
