Monroe man arrested for slitting dog’s throat

Local News

MONROE (WCMH)– A Monroe man has been arrested for slitting his dog’s throat with a kitchen and fillet knife.

Michael Kelley, 62, has been charged with cruelty to a companion animal.

The Deputy Dog Warden said this is the worst case of animal cruelty he has ever seen.

The dog’s body was discovered on Nov. 2, during a medical call run to Kelley’s home.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said in a statement, “The Butler County Deputy Dog Warden did a great job on this investigation. Cases like this are disturbing and I don’t understand the mentality of people who mistreat innocent animals. It makes one think what else they may be capable of. We will continue to take a firm stance here in Butler County against anyone who commits disgusting acts like this.”
