Monica tries out the Marie Kondo method of decluttering

Local News

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Over the past month, the new Netflix series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” has gone viral.

The concept is fairly easy: Get rid of the things that don’t spark joy in your life and organize the things that do.

In five steps, you can change your life just by decluttering.

The first area you tackle is clothing. You then move on to books, followed by paper. The third step is the biggest called komono, which basically covers all rooms of the house. The last category is the one that is the most emotionally difficult and that’s sentimental. This is the last stage by design so that by the time you get there you have really learned how to recognize what truly “sparks joy” for you.

After watching all six episodes repeatedly each week since the series premiered, Monica has decided to give it a try.

Over the next month (or more if needed), she will “tidy up” her house and take you along for the journey.

Check out a first look at her “not-so tidy” house in the video above.
