A Miami Trace High School student was critically injured in a one-vehicle traffic crash Thursday evening and airlifted to Columbus where he is in critical condition, according to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

Jacob Seyfang, 18, was traveling south on Washington-New Martinsburg Road and traveled off the left side of the roadway before colliding with a tree. Following the collision, the vehicle continued across the roadway and off the right side before coming to rest, said Stanforth in a press release.

Seyfang was trapped inside his vehicle and extricated by members of the Concord-Green Twp. Fire Department, treated at the scene by members of Fayette County EMS and subsequently airlifted from the scene by Med-Flight to a Columbus area trauma center where he remains in critical condition. The Seyfang vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash and was towed from the scene, says the Sheriff’s office.

The cause of the crash is not known and the crash remains under investigation.
