Medical marijuana dispensary opens in Coshocton

Local News

The Ohio Cannabis Company is now the 9th medical marijuana dispensary to open in Ohio, the first in our area. The family owned and operated Medical Marijuana Dispensary licensed by the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, opened Thursday morning to patients.

According to the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, there has been over 1.5 million dollars in medical marijuana sales since January. With this new dispensary, that number is sure to rise.

Patient Anna Bernatowicz says, “I’ve been waiting for the Coshocton facility to open! I’ve been going to Canton.”

Finally, after two months of waiting, patients like Anna Bernatowicz can get her medical marijuana with less hassle and a little less driving time.

Brian Wingfield, co-owner Ohio Cannabis Company, tells NBC4 that they are thrilled to open.

“There is not another within 45 minutes,” said Wingfield. “We’re one of 53 dispensaries that were awarded the license by the State Department of Pharmacy.”

Regulations on marijuana is something Don Oates, says is needed. He is an employee and a patient.

“I am sure it’s easy to get this stuff off the streets but you’re always taking a risk with things like that you never know what you’re getting,” noted Oats. “You know when you’re picking up the product here. that what you’re getting is what they say you’re getting.”

But what you’re getting does come at a cost.

“It’s very expensive,” said Bernatowicz. “I would like to see that come down.”

Columbus resident, Laurie Smith, is also not pleased with the high prices.

“Even to visit a doctor to prescribe it, your insurance won’t pay that. You have to pay the doctor out of pocket, everything is out of pocket.”

Although it’s recommended by a physician, the Federal Government and insurance companies don’t cover marijuana because it’s still classified as an illegal drug.

According to some of these patients, it’s worth the drive for a little relief.

“What the product has done for me is given me relief at night so I can relax and it helps me get through the evening,” said Oates.

Until Cannabis is removed from the list of controlled substances and named legal, patients could still be paying out of pocket for their medical marijuana.

The dispensary is open Tuesday through Saturday 10-6pm at 23024 Co Rd 621 Suite 1, Coshocton, OH 43812.
