Max’s Mission: Puppy cam update

Local News

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — NBC4 launched a Max’s Mission puppy cam this month to bring awareness to pregnant dogs and their puppies in rescue.

We’ve loved watching Julia’s pups grow, and their foster from RESCUEDOhio says they are doing great.

The five puppies are growing up fast.

They have opened their eyes, begun moving, and soon they will start eating dog food.

They are 3 weeks old and their momma is doing great at her new job of being a mom.

“I basically just watched and made sure that the sack was off of their noses pretty quickly so they could breathe,’ said foster Amelia Black.

Since Mom’s name is Julia, naming the puppies after chefs seemed appropriate to Black.

“We have Gordon, Jaques, Lydia, Giada, and Ming,” she said laughing.

Black has been keeping a watchful eye on them. “I’m watching to make sure they are still active that there weight is still okay and they are eating and they are.”

She is not the only one watching the puppies closely. “Grandma is constantly there. If you walk towards those puppies, she is there. She has gotten in the bed with them and licked bottoms and licked noses,” said Black.

Finley, Julia’s mother, is the puppies grandmother. “Just this morning she tried to nurse them twice, which was interesting.”

Slowly, the puppies personalities are starting to grow. “Gordon is a little bit of a noisy boy which makes sense, right,” she said laughing.

While the puppies are cute as ever, they have proven to be a lot of work.

And the job only gets harder when they start eating regular food.

“I’ve had to add gates and do a lot of rotation as far as going out, so this has probably been the toughest foster situation that I have ever done,” said Black.

She said even though its hard work it is well worth it knowing the dogs are safe and healthy.

The puppies will start being weaned next week which means it will be extra work for Black. Julia will no longer want to clean up after them when they no longer drink her milk.

Finley (grandma) is available for adoption right now through RESCUEDOhio.

Julia and the puppies will be available in the next few weeks.
