Max’s Mission: Dachshund Sage, 6, would be perfect companion for low-key family

Local News

Meet Max: He is a Brittany Spaniel-Beagle mix on a mission to find rescue dogs, like himself, a loving forever home.

NBC4 Today Weekend Anchor Hattie Hawks and her husband adopted Max from a small Central Ohio rescue called Pets Without Parents. Every week, Max and Hattie introduce viewers to other rescue dogs in search of forever homes.

This week, Hattie and Max stopped by a RESCUEDOhio foster home to meet Sage, a 6-year-old Dachshund surrendered to the rescue when her human family had a baby.

Sage has cataracts and is losing her eyesight, but it doesn’t slow her down. She can tell where she’s going and still loves to play and cuddle.

“She is a little shy as you can see, but she is totally fine with being held and pet,” Amy Davis with RESCUEDOhio said. “She likes to get all of her toys out one by one and lay them out.”

Sage loves humans and wants to be with her people all the time.

“She would be great for a family with older kids or a retired couple, or any family as long as it’s not too rambunctious of a household,” Davis said.

Sage is just one of many dogs staying with a RESCUEDOhio foster home. The organization has between 50 to 100 foster homes all over Columbus, and they’re always looking for volunteers to do anything from providing transportation to rescues and planning events to fostering dogs.
