COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Every week we feature a dog up for adoption with our segment called Max’s Mission.
NBC4’s Hattie Hawks and her rescue dog, Max, go to different rescues and shelters trying to help dogs who may be overlooked.
This week we are featuring a mission accomplished!
Stella is an extra special dog. She, like Max, is very shy when you first meet her and may not make the best impression for a potential adopter.
“Stella came with her six puppies. The shelter wanted us to take the puppies and separate her and obviously we didn’t want that,” said Director of RESCUEDOhio, Jillian Lenczicki.
Stella was shy, cautious and protective of her puppies. After she came to Central Ohio she started warming up to people.
We featured her for a Max’s Mission segment and a few weeks later she went to Hattie’s house to be fostered until she found the perfect family.
Today, the Kleis family couldn’t live without her.
“Thank God we got her.” Laughs Ellen Kleis.
Stella is a companion for the Kleis’ younger puppy, Bobby. “It has been an amazing journey. We are still on the journey but it has been amazing so far.”
Assuring a shy dog that they are safe with you takes patience and it isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it.
“It takes a lot of patience and don’t push them at all but boy what a wonderful dog they are,” said Kleis. “She has been such an asset to the family. We have so much fun with her, and Bobby absolutely loves her.”
Stella has come a long way since moving to her forever home months ago.
“She is a lot more relaxed now she is more protective then I realized, especially with bobby and the family in general. She has really come out of her shell,” Kleis said. “It feels really good. It feels really good. It’s kind of emotional.”
Stella is just another happy ending for Max’s Mission. “Don’t wait to rescue. Do it now. Trust me it’s worth it.”
