COLUMBUS (WCMH) – You may have heard, Mark Wahlberg is now the owner of a car dealership in west Columbus.
Friday, it opened for its first official, full-day of business.
One of the dealership’s first customers got a special surprise from the movie star, after purchasing a car. Terri O’Brien met Wahlberg via FaceTime.
“Nice to meet you on FaceTime,” he said. “How are you?”
O’Brien bought a car when the dealership was Bobby Layman Chevrolet three years ago. She had no idea there had been a change in ownership.
“It was really funny when I went to put the down payment down, I made the check out to Bobby Layman Chevrolet,” she said. “Don the salesman here told me, ‘You’re going to have to void that check and make it payable to Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet’ and I said, ‘What!?’”
O’Brien is a self-proclaimed fan of the actor, describing her meeting with him as kind and genuine.
“We’ll have to get you a tune-up and then we’ll have to go to lunch or something,” Wahlberg told her via FaceTime.
Wahlberg’s business partner, Jay Feldman, already owns car dealerships in Michigan. He said they’ve known each other for five years.
“One day I was in Mark’s movie trailer in Boston and he started asking me some questions about the car business, so we decided right there we were going to start looking for a car dealership together,” said Feldman.
He said Wahlberg has always wanted to own a dealership and already spends a lot of time in Ohio. The actor has a restaurant, Wahlburgers, in Cleveland.
“A huge part of his fans are in the Midwest and Ohio’s a great state,” said Feldman. “There’s a lot going on here and we’re just excited.”
Feldman said Wahlberg is planning to visit Columbus in August.
