COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Columbus man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his daughter’s mother.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced Friday that Andrew McGowan, 30, was found guilty of aggravated murder, murder, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse in connection to the Feb. 2017 murder of Gabriel Hinojosa.

Hinojosa’s body was found in a recycling container in Big Darby Creek Feb. 24, 2017 by group of people kayaking. The coroner’s office listed her official cause of death as “undetermined homicidal violence.” She had signs of neck compression and acute intoxication by fentanyl, according to the autopsy report.

Hinojosa was the mother of his child, according to a 2017 press release from O’Brien.

McGowan will have the possibility of parole after 25 years.
