Man killed in west Columbus shooting

One man is dead after an early morning shooting in west Columbus.

Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the area of 96 S. Warren Ave. around 5:28am Saturday on the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found one man, later identified by Columbus Police as John William Medlin IV, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by CFD medics.

Mr. Medlin was with a juvenile at the time of the shooting that was physically assaulted by the suspects. The juvenile was transported to Mt. Carmel West Hospital in stable condition. Investigation revealed the two were both confronted by unknown suspects near the intersection of S. Warren Avenue and Olive Street where an altercation ensued.  There are no known motives or suspects at this time.
