COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man has died 16 days after being injured during a fight in the Hilltop area.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 11:21pm, March 2, officers were called to the 500 block of S. Eureka Avenue on the report of several people fighting.

When officers arrived on scene, they found several people, including Keith Allen Monroe, 56, suffering from varying degree of injuries.

Most victims were treated at the scene, but Monroe was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.

However, after some time, Monroe’s condition continued to deteriorate and he was eventually diagnosed with a severe head injury requiring surgery.

Monroe’s condition failed to improve and on March 18 he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police that Monroe was involved in the initial fight and was targeted afterwards by some of the individuals who initiated the altercation.

Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information on this case call the CPD Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
