Man dead, teen suspect ID’d following shooting in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man has died from his injuries and police are searching for a 17-year-old suspect following a shooting in southeast Columbus Monday afternoon.

According to Columbus Police, the shooting was reported on the 1000 block of Smith Road at approximately 1 p.m.

Police received calls of between six and eight people fighting in the street.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, later identified as John Arthur Wilson III, 22, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Police have filed a warrant for the arrest of Frank Demontae Turner, 17, in connection with the shooting.

This is the 40th homicide in Columbus in 2020.
