Man charged with robbing 18 gas stations in Columbus, Westerville and Gahanna

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Columbus man is facing more than 50 charges, accused of robbing 18 gas stations over eight months.

Aaris Douglas Payne, 25, is facing charges including aggravated robbery, kidnapping and safecracking. The robberies happened between July 30, 2018 and March 17, 2019 at gas stations in Columbus, Westerville and Gahanna.

Payne was arrested on March 17 after a robbery at the BP Duke and Duchess at 4024 Morse Road.

“All but one of the robberies occurred in the early morning hours between 3:40 am-6:45 am,” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien stated.

Payne is accused of robbing the following stores:

  • 09/14/18 BP Duke and Duchess/900 S. Sunbury Road

  • 12/09/18 Speedway/4830 N. Hamilton Road
  • 12/16/18 Shell/1955 Polaris Parkway
  • 12/24/18 Speedway/7860 E. Broad Street
  • 12/24/18 Sunoco/7700 Kennedy Road
  • 12/25/18 BP Duchess Shoppe/7310 Sawmill Road
  • 12/25/18 Circle K/8303 Sancus Boulevard
  • 01/14/19 Shell/4733 Morse Road
  • 02/06/19 BP Duke and Duchess/900 S. Sunbury Road
  • 02/10/19 Speedway/825 Worthington Woods Boulevard
  • 02/10/19 BP Duchess/7525 Sancus Boulevard
  • 03/03/19 Speedway/4240 Morse Road
  • 03/11/19 Speedway/360 S. State Street

Payne is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.
