Lottery ticket sales benefit more than just the winner

Local News

The sweet sound of a Mega Millions ticket sale brings joy to SF&M carry out owner Marty Pyles ears. And she loves the madness.

“Absolutely crazy just like last week,” Pyles said.

Customers have been coming to get their Mega Millions lottery ticket, hoping their name will next appear on the stores winning ticket wall.

“All of my customers say that. They say we come here and play the lottery because we win here,” said Pyles.

The Ohio Lottery likes to hear that.

“Friday, the jackpot was $1 Billion and we had sales of $19.3 million alone,” said Danielle Frizzi-Babb, Communications Director for the Ohio Lottery.

The Ohio Lottery said this historic jackpot has had players test their luck.

“At one point on Friday we were seeing sales at over $1 million per hour,” Frizzi-Babb said.

The Mega Millions jackpot just keeps getting bigger and bigger.  With the prize now up to $1.6 billion, the winner can take home a $904 million cash payout.

“If the winner takes the cash option, the initial withholding will be $36 million to the state and $217 million will go to the federal government,” Frizzi-Babb said.

At the end of the day, you will still be richer than Lady Gaga and Tom Cruise combined.
