“We are actually in the game first [before our competitors launched in Columbus],” said president and founder of ROAM Bikes Kelly James.
The new electronic transportation option is set to launch in Columbus in June.
“I’m home grown,” said James, a Columbus native. “We believe that nobody knows your city better than you do. We have structured our business model to really represent what we know about Columbus.”
ROAM stand for rideshare options advancing micro mobility.
“We have the safest, best designed most featured product in the industry. Part of our design is we are the first company with fat tires and front fork suspension, and we are also the first company that also offers a thumb throttle for our riders,” James explained. “When you start peddling, the motor kicks in and it matches your cadence and it’s almost like floating on air.”
This also makes it easier for people who lack two-wheel coordination.
There are no docking stations or at-home charging systems for the ROAM bikes.
“[Our battery] is the largest battery in the industry,” James said. “The average ride is between 40 and 50 miles and each battery is swapped out in real time. So unlike our competitors, people don’t have to take them home. We have techs in the industry that come out and swap that out throughout the day when I need it.”
James pledges the bikes will serve every neighborhood—not just a select few.
“We are going to service every community. That is our goal. Our goal in starting our company is to bridge the divide between the public, the city, and local businesses.” said James.
