COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The KonMari Method featured in the hit Netflix series “Tidying Up” is more than just where to put things or how to fold your clothes.
KonMari is an intentional way to approach your clutter and you’re ideal lifestyle. I recently started the journey to a clutter-free home, and KonMari Consultant Michell Domke gave me advice on how to reach my goal.
According to Domke, you must really commit to the process because it easy to become overwhelmed.
“One of the big steps in the process is putting everything in a pile. So when you pull everything out of your closet or your cabinets or whatever and you put it in a giant pile that can be extremely overwhelming,” says Domke.
Also, be sure to figure out why you’re going through the process.
“Really assessing what’s working and what’s not working in your current situation and where you want to go,” Domke says.
Once you’re in the process don’t over think it or get stuck thinking that you have to get rid of everything.
“If you love it it doesn’t matter you can keep it. So just create the space for that thing that you love,” says Domke.
Following the steps of the method in order is key.
“It starts with the easiest thing and goes to the hardest thing. So it’s all about honing your sense of joy and getting in touch with how you feel about things.”
And finally, don’t rush the process or think you have to be finished in a specific time frame.
