Internet Crimes Against Children task force involved in search of Columbus sergeant's home

Public records confirm a search warrant was executed at the home of a Columbus Police sergeant who was relieved of his assignment earlier this week.

Dean Worthington, the former Public Information Officer for Columbus Police, turned in his badge and gun on Tuesday. According to records, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Worthington’s home the same day.

NBC4 has also learned that the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was involved in this search.

Worthington was a 20-year veteran of the police force before being promoted to PIO for the division on 2017.

NBC4 has made multiple calls to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, but authorities are not providing any further details at this time.

Worthington has not been charged with any crimes at this time.
