Inmate escapes from Franklin County Medical Center; apprehended hours later

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction(ODRC) confirmed the escape of an inmate from the Franklin Medical Center late evening on Tuesday, August 28.

Franklin Medical Center is a secure medical facility located on Harmon Avenue in Columbus that is operated by the ODRC.

Robert Walters, 45, an inmate from Clark County who was serving a four year sentence for breaking and entering and receiving stolen property, escaped the facility at 11:27pm.

According to the ODRC, on Wednesday, August 29 at approximately 1:43am, he was apprehended by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and returned to custody.

The incident is still under investigation according to ODRC spokesperson JoEllen Smith.
