I-70 East closed for hours in downtown Columbus after report of shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A portion of a downtown Columbus freeway was closed and one person hospitalized after a report of a shooting Monday.

Columbus Police said at approximately 11:53 a.m., officers responded to I-70 East near the Alum Creek Drive exit for a report of a shooting.

Officers found the victim, a 28-year-old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his left side.

The victim told police he was traveling east on I-70 when a blue Toyota SUV pulled alongside his vehicle. The driver of the SUV then began firing a gun at the victim, according to police.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the ramp from Interstate 71 South to Interstate 70 East was closed. The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed between I-71 and Alum Creek drive.

Traffic cameras showed traffic moving in those lanes once again by 2:45 p.m.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.
