Hundreds gather for Columbus police memorial ceremony

Local News

Hundreds of people gathered at the Police Memorial in Genoa Park to pay tribute to all officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The annual Police Memorial ceremony was part of Police Week. It served as an opportunity for current officers, former officers, family, friends and the public to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

In attendance were several relatives of those whose names are etched in the Police Memorial.

Officer Bryan Hurst was shot and killed in 2005.

His father was amongst those paying tribute to the fallen officers.

“I come every year and I’ll come every year until the day I die,” said Ted Kaczorowski, Hurst’s father. “It’s just absolutely marvelous, people getting together here and honoring all these fallen officers, and they deserve it.”

The public can visit the Police Memorial, year round. It is located across from COSI.
