How to sign up for Firefighters for Kids

Local News

Our Firefighters for Kids event is this Saturday! We’re asking you to bring unwrapped toys to our station at 3165 Olentangy River Road.

Some of you have been wondering how can you get your kids signed up to be a part of it… So here’s exactly how.

“The age limit is 0 through 12 years old. In order to sign up, you need to be the legal guardian of the children. You need to present the birth certificates of the children. And some agencies require proof of residency. There are requirements by agencies that you have to be in an income level which is based on the HEAP standards,” says Rhonda Mcguire with Firefighters for Kids.

You cannot sign up online. You need to go to an agency to sign up. There are five agencies that are taking all of Franklin County.

“To sign up you can go to several locations we call them agencies actually do signups what they will do is take your information and they’ll put it in the system they’ll put your children based on gender and age into the website.

All the agencies are listed on the website here – https://www.firefighters4kids.com/

Rhonda explains what to do on the website link above, “There’s a tab that says events. If you hover on that and click on agency registrations, it will bring up all the current agencies that are taking names. It’ll have their name, the location, the phone number, in case you need to reach them as well as the dates and times they are taking names and any zip codes they specifically handle.”

There’s no limit to how many children in a single family can be covered, as long as they all fit in the 0-12 age range.

However, families will not be covered more than once.

“We ask that you only sign the children up once. So one parent signs up the children. We do have a way to validate if the families have signed up more than once. So, please just sign them up once for the program,” said Rhonda.

Rhonda enjoys seeing this program go on for its 41st year.

“I think the best part of this is knowing these children on Christmas morning are going to wake up and be able to have something there under the tree. There’s so many families and children that just need and it just gives them that joy and boost and helps the community,” said Ronda.

You have until December 21st to sign your family up.
